Introduction
It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post, and for good reason: we had an awesome summer vacation! We took off for the beach for four days and it was just what we needed. The weather was great; there were no crowds at the beach; and we got to relax in a beautiful place with our family. Here’s my travel blog about our trip to Lake Michigan:
Vacation was everything we needed.
Vacation was everything we needed. After a busy summer, it was great to spend some time together as a family. We did many things we never do at home and had fun as a family. We got to spend quality time together and enjoyed every minute of it!
The Lighthouse at Grand Haven State Park
The Grand Haven State Park is a popular tourist attraction. It has a museum, an observation deck and gift shop, as well as a lighthouse that is open to the public. The lighthouse is on the Lake Michigan shoreline.
Fishing with the Family
The next day, we went fishing with the family. It was a beautiful day, and everyone in our group had a great time.
If you’re not familiar with the sport of fishing, it’s pretty simple: You bait your line with whatever food fish like (worms or minnows), cast your line into the water, let it sit there until something takes your bait and pulls on your line—then reel them in!
We all caught some fish (and even managed to catch one for dinner). We also saw some dolphins swimming around us—they were so cool!
Making Memories at the Beach
Our family had a great time at the beach. We built a sand castle, we swam in the water, and we ate ice cream. We made memories that will last forever!
Fun and Games on Saugatuck Dunes State Park (and a bit about our puppy)
I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking that this seems like a lot of fun, but it’s not really going to teach me anything. Well, that’s where you’d be wrong! First of all, I think most people would agree that playing on the beach is a great way to spend time with your family and friends. In addition to this, there were other things we did during our stay at Saugatuck Dunes State Park which may not seem so obvious at first glance:
We got to play with our puppy (who just happens to be one of the cutest puppies ever).
We got a chance to see our grandparents and aunt/uncle who live nearby (and babysit for them once in awhile).
Finally, there was just something special about being able to go somewhere—anywhere—with my parents and have fun together as adults without worrying about bills or work or other worries from everyday life back home in Chicago!
The Beauty of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
The beauty of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is something to behold. It’s a place where you can hike, canoe and kayak and stay in a cabin. We went to the beach and had a picnic with friends. The park has been around since 1970 so it’s rich with history!
We had a very relaxing vacation and we got to spend quality time as a family.
We had a very relaxing vacation. We got to spend quality time as a family and with friends. We got to do things we normally wouldn’t have time for.
We also got to see some of our favorite places in the great state of Michigan that we haven’t visited in years!
Conclusion
As we write this, we are sitting at our kitchen table in Brooklyn. The kids are playing with their toys and watching TV, while my wife is making dinner. It’s not the most glamorous life, but it’s ours and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. We had an amazing time on our summer trip to Lake Michigan, but now we are ready to come back home again!
