Let’s Go Paddling Down the Mighty Mississippi

Introduction

Paddling down the mighty Mississippi River is a great way to build camaraderie with your friends and family. There are many different ways to do this, from renting kayaks from local outfitters like Arkansas Canoe Club or Ozark Adventures, or taking one of their trips on their boats. You can also rent paddle boat rentals in Memphis TN if you want to go through downtown Memphis as well as other cities along the river such as Tunica MS, Greenville MS, Vicksburg MS and more!

Safety

It’s important to be safe when planning your trip. Here are some tips:

  • Safety first! Always wear your life jacket when you’re on the boat and make sure everyone else on board does too.
  • Keep an eye out for passing barges, which can be very large and dangerous if you get in their way. It’s best not to travel at night because it’s harder to see them then, so it’s best that you avoid taking a trip by yourself at night if possible.
  • There are plenty of places where you can stop along the river and camp or stay in hotels or motels if you prefer more comfort than camping offers (and many people do). Be sure to check ahead of time, though—there may not be any available space left due to increased tourism in recent years!

Paddling down the river.

So you want to go paddling? Here are a few things to keep in mind when planning your trip:

  • What kind of boat do you want to use?

Canoes and kayaks are great for beginners, while stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) are more stable. If it’s your first time on the river, it may be best to rent if you’re not sure about how much time or effort this will take. If you plan on going again, consider buying a used boat that can be stored at home during the off-season.

  • Where should I get my license/how long does it take?

Every state has its own rules about licensing requirements for boaters and licensing agencies; find out which agency is best suited for your needs before setting out. The process varies from state to state but typically involves filling out paperwork and paying an application fee between $10 – $100 depending upon where in America you live!

Wildlife

Wildlife:

  • you may see alligators, turtles, beavers and other animals. These are mostly harmless and don’t have any interest in you. Of course, avoid areas where they are likely to be active—at night especially.
  • if you hit a turtle with your boat, help it out of the water as quickly as possible so that it can dry out its shell. Turtles have an air hole at their tails; if they’re left in the water too long they may drown!

Camping along the river.

Camping along the river is a great way to spend some time with your family. You can pitch up your tent and set up camp near one of the many islands that are found on this stretch of water. While you’re here, you should plan a day trip out into the surrounding countryside—you might even consider visiting some of those extinct volcanoes!

You will also want to take advantage of camping opportunities that don’t require pitching a tent, like boating at night or just laying around in your hammock all day long.
