Golden Horizon Ship | Travel Blog

Introduction

A cruise on the Horizon Ship is one of the best ways to travel. Not only do you get to see some of the most beautiful destinations in South America, but you also get to enjoy all of the comforts and amenities that only a luxury ship can provide. In this blog post we’ll explore some of our favorite places in Chile, Easter Island, Colombia and more!

Best places to visit in South America

South America is a continent with many countries and cultures. It is not easy to decide which places to visit, but we have selected some of the best places for you.

  • The Torres del Paine National Park in Chile has stunning views that make it a great place to go hiking and see wildlife.
  • If you are looking for culture, then Santiago de Chile should be on your list. Here you can explore historic landmarks like La Moneda Palace or go shopping in one of the city’s malls or markets.
  • Easter Island is famous for its Moai statues that stand on top of volcanic rock pillars around the island. These carved figures tell stories about how their people came to live there thousands of years ago! You can also climb mount Rano Kau volcano while visiting this island paradise!
  • Cartagena, Colombia has been called “the Venice of South America” because its narrow streets are filled with beautiful architecture around every corner (like this church). There are plenty more things to do here too: take an excursion into nearby jungle areas; go scuba diving with whale sharks or snorkeling along coral reefs; enjoy delicious local cuisine; shop at artisan markets where locals sell handmade souvenirs made by hand just steps away from where they live — all these experiences will make visiting Cartagena unforgettable!

Torres del Paine National Park, Chile

The Torres del Paine National Park is located in Chilean Patagonia and can be found on the western side of Lake Tagua Tagua. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, which makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Chile.

The park has an incredible range of landscapes. From its plains to its mountains, it has something for everyone! The park also hosts some incredible wildlife – including guanacos and southern right whales.

Santiago de Chile

Santiago de Chile is the capital of Chile. It is located in central Chile on the shores of Mapocho river, between the Andes mountains and Pacific Ocean. The city has a population of 6.7 million people, making it one of the largest cities in South America and one of the most important cities in Latin America as well.

The city was founded by Spanish colonists in 1541 as Santiago de Nueva Extremadura under orders from Pedro de Valdivia who had arrived from Peru two years earlier to establish new settlements along this coast. In 1810 it became capital under Spanish rule but soon after independence from Spain was declared in 1818 (although this did not come about until 1826), Santiago became capital again when local hero Bernardo O’Higgins was elected president of an independent Chile for three terms starting with his first term on March 7th 1823 – he later went onto become Supreme Director but died before finishing his third term so his son Ramon succeeded him instead).

Easter Island

Easter Island is an island in the Southern Pacific Ocean, at the southeasternmost point of the Polynesian Triangle. Famous for its Moai statues and archaeological sites, Easter Island has become a popular tourist destination in recent years.

The Rapa Nui people were Polynesians who inhabited Easter Island between 300 and 1200 AD. Their arrival on Easter Island is thought to have been around 700 AD, but this date is controversial because it was based on oral history which had been passed down from generation to generation until European contact in 1722. According to legend, Hotu Matua arrived at Rano Kau with his two wives (and two dogs) after being exiled from Ra’iatea by his father-in-law Tuuhemaia, who had conquered that island kingdom. However, according to William Jurgens et al., this story “seems unlikely since only women came with them as they would not have wanted wars if they did not have men on board”. The most likely scenario is that the first settlers came by chance rather than design; perhaps blown off course while en route elsewhere by a storm or currents between their starting port of Mangareva (modern day Gambier Islands) and Rarotonga (Cook Islands). Whatever happened during these early voyages from Mangareva probably contributed towards shaping how Rapa Nui developed culturally over time into what we see today as well as influencing how visitors may experience it now.”

Cape Horn

Cape Horn is a rocky promontory in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. It is located at the southern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula and is the southernmost point of land on earth. It is also one of the remotest places in the world. The nearest town or settlement is Puerto Williams, Chile, which lies 1,904 kilometres (1,184 mi) to the south-east across the Drake Passage.

Cartagena, Colombia

Cartagena is a city that was built by the Spanish in 1533. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has a rich history. The old colonial city center has many museums and art galleries.

If you are looking for something to do in Cartagena, there are several attractions to visit including:

  • Get lost in the narrow streets of El Centro
  • Visit Castillo San Felipe de Barajas (Castle of San Felipe) which dates back to 1657 and offers beautiful views over the bay from its ramparts
  • Enjoy an evening out at Parque Lleras where you can watch street performers, eat some delicious food and drink at one of their bars or restaurants
